What gets encoded?

This tool uses JavaScript's encodeURIComponent() and decodeURIComponent(). It is useful for a single value in a query string or a path segment. It encodes characters such as spaces, ampersands and question marks so they can be used as data within a URL.

For a complete URL, encoding the entire address as one component would also encode its slashes and punctuation. Build the URL structure separately and encode individual values.
